  7. Sorry to sound uninformed, but is this the new "modular" construction that the Navy was proud to be introducing?

Also, when is this ship (roughly!) due to be completed?

    Thanks in advance.

  11. Glad you all liked the pics. I'm sure that you must have noticed that the underwater portion of the 15-A is very similar to the Project 15 boats.

But the superstructure is at least half a generation ahead. Much cleaner, must less visible on radar, and packing a bigger punch.

Wish I could have posted more pics, but you'll have to wait for my next trip. With some luck, it'll happen soon.

These ships are not yet being constructed in the new "modular" fashion. The first boats that will be constructed in modules are the Project 17-A. If you remember, I had written that the first of them (and who knows, might even be the second) will be constructed in the foreign yard that provides the consultancy. By current indicators, it could be DCNS. But the 17-A could go to as many as six to seven frigates. And all the rest will be constructed in India.

    Exciting stuff!

  12. Ajai: Thanks for kindly repeating what you had said before! I knew that I had read about the modular construction before, but was not sure where.

Am I correct to guess that 17-A are a couple of years down the line?

    Thanks in advance.

  13. Thanks Ajai,

They are great pics. Did MDL have any models of the P-15A and/or P-17s around?

Not to seem ungrateful but you have raised the bar for our expectations, I hope you are planning on doing some articles on NPOL and NSTL.

  14. Hi ajai

When you visit GRSE, could you please ask them if the P-28's will have any SSM's (Klub or Uran) on them?
    Thanks

  15. Well, the ship and the numbers concerning it seem impressive but what i want to ask is tht can 20th century shipyards build ships for a 21st century navy? i mean they require upgrades if we are to make heavier ships like missile cruisers and large aircraft carriers.
