Hornet F-18/E/F looks the same as the earlier Hornet, it is a completely different aircraft that will serve until 2055 at least. Australia has just bought a new batch, and Canada is delaying its F-35 and will buy more F-18s. Problem with Rafale is that French have never been honest on its real price: life-cycle is $330-million each. We're paying $250-million for each Rafale and that is not true life-cycle either.

As Colonel Shukla has been saying over-and-over again for years, ur procurement policy makes NO sense at all for just about anything. Now a US mag - I think its defensenews.com - has come out with the 1st realistic figure for how messed up we are; giving a backlog of $400-bil worth of weapons. I suspect they have used Col. Shikla's estimates; except when he made that estimate I discussed with him it is more likely $600-billion we need to meet TODAY's shortages. We've let modernization go for over 25-years
Ravihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01028420171993289655noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8726844009873922462.post-46477269502539164382016-11-28T17:15:33.369-08:002016-11-28T17:15:33.369-08:00Nothing wrong with a CVN, except we cant wait for ...Nothing wrong with a CVN, except we cant wait for 2035 for a 3rd carrier. Parthi89 correctly notes we need additional Vikrant class, minimum 2-3. C hina's 2nd carrier is due 2021 (60,000-tons) so Vikrant in 2021 is till okay, but afyer China gets its #2 CV, it is going to speed up.

Dalip, if you look at what China is upto in the Indian OCean, they have already surrounded us while we keep dreaming. They have nval basing facilities in Gwader, anytime access to Karachi, are building a new port for Sri Lanka, communications facilities off Andaman; increasing investment in Burma, and are piling into Bangladesh. They already have their first naval facility near Suze (Djibouti, where they will build a proper naval base). They are doing their best to get US out of Philippines, and will succeed, because they have tens of billions of dollars to invest in each and every country they want. They are already the biggest investors in Africa, and are moving into South America big time. Imagine how many corvettes and OPVs or for that matter submarines could have been bought for the cost of one CVN. Sadly, the bigger the IN becomes, the dumber it becomes since it desperately wants to be seen as a 'big navy'. These aircrafts may not survive against 5th gen capabilities of stealth& huge data processing, which gives them obvious upper hand in long ranges. So to flex muscle in oceans, is not a dedicated 5th gen carrier launched aircraft project necessary?J3https://www.blogger.com/profile/12486842042458204873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8726844009873922462.post-83108575939168790912016-11-06T20:51:02.230-08:002016-11-06T20:51:02.230-08:002035 is too far away to wait for the second carrie...2035 is too far away to wait for the second carrier!!
