Broadsword quiz... level "challenging". What ship is this and what does it do?

    INS Sagardhwani is a Marine Acoustic Research Ship (MARS) launched in May 1991.The vessel has been configured as a research vessel for the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory, Kochi.There are a total of eight labs to permit conducting acoustic, geological, meteorological, chemical and physical oceanography.

    The name of the ship is
    INS Sagardhwani, a research vessel.
    Its used conduct variety of research activities including testing of Advanced Torpedo systems that have been developed by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory.

  8. It is some sort of a oceanographic survey vessel. My guess, it is most probably the INS Sagardhwanee. The one that is used to test advanced torpedo designs and R&D into advanced sensor systems.

Well, I was above to say stern trawler which is used to cash fish with a trawling speed of 4 to 5 knots (seeing the frame at the stern), but then seeing it is a Coast Guard/IN boat, I guess it does tow /dunk some equipment from the stern. Probably some kind of oceanographic /minesweeper / some sonar array towing vessel that drags it in a line behind the vessel.

  10. well it is the INS Sagardhwani. It is used as a research vessel for various fields ranging from acoustic, geological, meteorological, chemical and physical oceanography in the eight labs of the ship and is also used to test torpedoes !!!!

    in the third picture in broadsword's post about INS kalpeni nabbing 61 pirates, you can see INS Sagardhawini moored directly aft of INS Kalpeni

  16. Its INS Sagardhwani,the lone research of IN, this vessel is used NPOL for conducting various experiments at sea in the labs on board (I am not sure of the numbers, but guess around 8).

  20. It's INS Sagardhwani, a research vessel with the NPOL. Research from different areas such as acoustic, oceanography, geological are conducted. Also testbed for advanced torpedos.

  22. It looks like a research ship, so I looked at Bharat-rakshak.com and this what I think it is: It's Sagardhwani A74 (A research ship). "The vessel has been configured as a research vessel for this Naval Physical and Oceanographic Lavoratory, Kochi". This ship has 8 laboratories "to permit conducting acoustic, geologival, meteorological, chemical and phusical oceanograohy". This ship was "employed in acvance torpedo trials and missile range support". Thanks to BR.com and their contributors for all the information stored on that website.

  26. This is an Indian Navy combat trawler INS Sagardhwani. It has the ability to catch 20 tonnes of fish under battle conditions to feed the saliors on ships that are on the move.

    But what makes this particular ship different and perhaps the quiz more challenging is that it is also equipped to combat heavily armed fish and capture them for consumption later.

    This ship conducts - marine acoustics and chemical oceanography. The role of this ship is significant in mapping sea layers, wave temperatures, fingerprinting enemy and other ships. Also it monitors and works with underwater cables and signals. It supports Deep Underwater marine special forces and deep submersible operations.

  30. This is a fishing trawler of Tri-Services command operated by Indian Navy for catching fish for armed forces canteen. They are readying to set sail hoping to come back by night so that the defence canteens can supply fish curry for the next day's lunch.

    I base my answere on location of cranes and the pulley assembly at Aft end.

    Now what if people came to know that the A 74 written on the side of the ship is photoshopped hain?
