Readers' quiz: What on earth is that?

Broadsword's educated visitors had little difficulty in identifying the DRDO's 5.56 mm machine carbine that I posted. Many people shared the kudos. I suspect, though, that far fewer visitors will succeed in guessing what the #*^@$& this item is. The floor is yours!

  36. Im pretty sure they are DRDO made 84 mm shells for the Carl Gustav recoilless rifle which is in service in the Indian Army. Some time ago I saw an article about ARDE developing an 84 mm RR reverse engineered from a Carl Gustav. Maybe they made their own ammunition for it. The base of the charger looks similar to an 84mm but the warhead is a little different from the conventional ones used by Carl Gustav. The colours may indicate smoke that is deployed by the shell as OFB usually has the same colours for their smoke ammunition. What do you think Mr Shukla?

    How is that!

  53. Can be anything but it is not :

A rocket, does not have fins.

    Nor a barrel fired bomb.

Not a shape charge, disproprtionate lenghth

    It has:

-A warhead which could have a fuse
    - A case carrying low / high explosive

    hence could be:

    An air fragamntion proximity bomblet
    Impact bomblet
Air to ground rocket if fins are inside the casing.

A sort of bomblet which can be put inside a big casing to open at a hieght and spread thses bomblets on groud for impact brusts / low level air brusts.
